Major Fire in Buenos Aires Province Industrial Zone

Buenos Aires, November 17, 2025 – This morning, the prosecutor's office and specialized experts began their investigation to determine the origin of the massive fire that broke out on Friday night in the area known as the Spegazzini Industrial Polygon, in the locality of Carlos Spegazzini, Ezeiza district.

The fire, which had its epicenter at the company Logischem—a chemical warehouse—began with a severe explosion around 9 p.m., according to preliminary reports. A former employee of the company stated to the press that there were deposits of corrosive and flammable chemicals without sufficient barriers, and that "if this logistics exploded, several blocks around would burn down".

The design of the site, with more than 220 lots distributed in a logistics corridor along the Ezeiza-Cañuelas highway, allowed for a rapid spread of the fire. The shockwave affected neighboring factories such as Iron Mountain, Larroca Minera, Almacén de Frío, Aditivos Alimentarios and Sinteplast, which led to million-dollar losses and injured more than twenty people with minor to moderate injuries.

Although the main fire sources are now under control, residual flames still persist, which authorities have decided to let burn out on their own in order to preserve key evidence from the blaze.

The Ezeiza municipality, through its mayor Gastón Granados, communicated that neighbors near the area had to remain sheltered in their homes and were advised to use masks due to smoke inhalation.

According to sector analysts, a logistics and confidence crisis is already being discussed for the southwestern Buenos Aires industrial zone, which will now have to face reconstruction, compensation, and a review of preventive regulations.

In the coming weeks, the prosecutor's office may order measures to secure the premises, prohibit unauthorized entry, and conduct external audits to determine where the failure occurred.

While no cases of severe toxicity have been reported by health authorities, uncertainty remains due to potential chemical residue.

Meanwhile, volunteer firefighters and the Buenos Aires Police deployed more than 50 units from different districts of the Greater Buenos Aires area.

The head of the Ezeiza UFI 1, Prosecutor Florencia Belloc, ordered the action of the Buenos Aires Scientific Police expert teams for this day. The initial classification of the case is "fire," but it could be aggravated if the investigation proves gross negligence or intent.

The insurance companies of the affected industries have already entered the site to assess structural damage, machinery losses, razed warehouses, and destroyed stock.

One of the most discussed hypotheses among investigators indicates that a gas leak or flammable product at Logischem could have caused the initial explosion, which then spread due to wind and deficiencies in the containment systems of other warehouses.

The objective is to verify the exact point of origin, thermal patterns, the presence of accelerants, and the possible responsibility of companies or individuals.

The administrator of the complex operated by Alberdi Developments stated that the incident occurred in the "Industrial Polygon" and not inside the fenced park of the Spegazzini Industrial Park, although the geographical proximity generated confusion between the two names.

"It took more than 36 hours to control most of the fire, while the remaining foci were deliberately contained to preserve key structures for the investigation."

Sources in the sector estimate that the economic impact exceeds tens of millions of dollars when considering the value of installations, interrupted production, and the cost of reconstruction.

Meanwhile, the immediate outlook is one of contained calm but tension between affected business owners and displaced workers.
